ENC 1102-Professor Wolcott

Reflection:
The genre analysis was the second assignment given to us, which included grouping various articles that have a similar discourse community. We had to analyze the type of genre that was used and discuss how they are all in the same discourse community. This assignment seemed to be more of structure and communication rather than the content of the information. In order to write this paper, I had to know the definition of genre and know how it relates to a specific discourse community. My genre analysis consisted of various developments in early childhood aged children and focused on how to apply genre to the analysis.

What I learned?
Through my genre analysis, I learned the similarities between the development of cognitive, physical and social and emotional skills in early childhood aged children. My genre analysis taught me what genre is and how to apply it to literature. This paper was the first time I’ve had to incorporate reoccurring themes, which helped me on projects shortly following i.e. my annotated bibliography and literature review. The most important aspect I learned from this paper is that it is important and useful to have powers such an appeal and structure to construct a functional document.

How I think I did?
When initially turning in the paper, I thought I had a clear understanding of the rubric and assignment, but after getting my grade and comments back I was upset with the grade I received. After receiving feedback, I now know I understood some parts of the assignment incorrectly and realized that I need to pay more attention to the teacher’s instructions and directions.

How I actually did?
